Spray Paint Cans Sales Law
New laws relevant to retailers have been created relating to the sale of spray paint cans under the Summary Offences Act 1981 as follows:
section 14A - Sale of spray cans to people under 18 prohibited - It is now illegal to sell spray paint cans to people less than 18 years of age. This has been the law from 26 June 2008. Retailers can be fined up to $1500 if they breach this law.
section 14B - Access to spray cans in shops to be restricted - Retailers must restrict the access to spray paint cans in shops, so the public cannot obtain them without the help of a shop employee. This will be the law from 26 September 2008. Retailers who breach this law can receive a fine of up to $1500.
The Ministry of Justice's Crime Prevention Unit has created the attached material for retail owners/managers, staff, and the public so that you can carry out your responsibilities under the law.
