Pet Industry Association
The Pet Industry Association of New Zealand (PIA) is a specialist trade group within the New Zealand Retailers Association Inc. It maintains close links with P.I.J.A.C. Australia.
The PIA is the collective voice for New Zealand's pet retailing and wholesaling industries.
We provide the opportunity for members to have their say on issues affecting their livelihoods, and to benefit from resources and knowledge that contribute to their efficiency and profitability.
Membership is by application and annual subscription which supports a professional Trade Group Executive who can also assist members.
Key Objectives
- To provide current members with the newly completed Voluntary Code of Practice to be used as a valuable guide with the pet leaflets and in conjunction with the NZRA 0800 help line.
- Communicate with members through newsletters featuring industry and product information both nationally and internationally.
- To continue to monitor all legislation relative to the industry in both Australia and New Zealand and to be proactive in assisting other organisations within the industry like N.I.W.A.
- To make submissions on all compliance costs such as MAF and OSH regulations where it is detrimental to the New Zealand Industry.

The Pet Industry Association of Australia (PIAA) is holding their Pet Expo in Sydney from October 6-8 2011. We encourage all members of PIA New Zealand to attend this truly international event. The PIA of NZ will be holding a “Kiwi Night” for members to get together with guest speaker, drinks and nibbles on Friday 7th.
