Asia’s Retailers are all set for a great 2010….
Having had a pretty rough ride over the past months in 2009, Asia Pacific's retailers seem all had a profitable holiday period since October. Hong Kong's retail figures for October, showed an 8.2% rise in takings, a very healthy HK$22.8 billion for the month. Just announced on Dec. 30, the value of Hong Kong total retail sales in November 2009, provisionally estimated at $22.9 billion, increased by 11.7% over a year earlier.
Elsewhere throughout the region the outlook is similarly positive with China’s total retail sales figures from January to November 2009 having reached CNY11.273 trillion, a year-on-year increase of 15.3%. Also a recent report predicting double-digit retail growth for Malaysia, citing low unemployment rates, rising disposable income and a strong tourism industry as key factors.
2010 also sees the second edition of the highly acclaimed Retail Asia Expo take place in Hong Kong at the end of June. Retailers from all over Asia Pacific came to the inaugural event last year and were so impressed that they are already booking their flights and hotels for the 2010 edition which promises so much more…
