2012 TOP SHOP® Categories

Are you starting to think about entering the 2012 TOP SHOP® Retail Excellence Awards?

If so, you'll need to know which category to put on your entry form.    A full list and description is shown below.

The category you select must reflect the predominant nature of your business*.

*If the New Zealand Retailers Association disagrees with the category you have selected, we will change it to one we consider more appropriate.  In this situation we will contact you to discuss the decision.

Large format stores (Over 1,000 square metres)

This includes the total range of retail outlets e.g. supermarkets, mass merchandisers, department stores, furnishing stores, hardware stores, garden centres.

Fashion, Footwear and Accessories

Stores that predominantly sell apparel, footwear and/or accessories, excluding specialist sports footwear stores.

Lifestyle and Wellbeing

Stores that predominantly sell goods that enhance peoples lifestyle and activities, including sporting goods, fitness centres, specialist footwear stores, music stores, video stores, bookstores, garden centres, pet stores, craft stores, camera stores, hairdressers, beauty salons, pharmacies, health stores and similar.

Giftware and Homeware

Stores that predominantly sell giftware and homeware e.g. jewellery gift shops, florists, souvenirs, galleries, homeware, linen and kitchenware.

Specialty

For example; home appliances, flooring coverings, lighting, bathrooms, furniture, home furnishings and any other store which doesn’t fit into the other categories.

Food and Beverage#

Includes cafes, bottle stores, delicatessens, grocers and convenience stores.

Start Up

A new shop concept and new shop brand that has commenced trading after 1 January 2011. New stores of existing franchises or chain stores are not eligible. Start up entrants are not eligible for the Overall TOP SHOP® Award.

Sustainability in Retailing

This award recognises the effort and true commitment of a retailer to be sustainable in as many aspects of the business as possible.  Please note, if you are wanting to enter the Sustainability category you will first need to select a main category that best represents your store.  (This category is not eligible for Overall TOP SHOP®).

Retail Modern Apprentice

The Retail Modern Apprenticeship programme is a government-funded, work-based training programme for people aged 16 to 21. It aims to make it easier for employers to recruit and train talented young staff to eventually be supervisors or managers.
